Rural Development Societies re-activated

The Provincial Ministry of Women's Affairs, Rural Development and Sports will re-activate rural development societies in the Central Province.

There are 2,236 Grama Seva divisions in Matale, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts and every G.S. Division has a Rural Development Society. At present the majority of these Societies are dormant. All rural development Societies will be under the new program.

At the inception of the rural development movement, these Societies were set up to develop the rural areas.

However, after a short-time the Movement collapsed due to various reasons.
