Matthew leads squad for Youth Olympic Games

Sri Lanka's only medal winner at Asian level in swimming, Matthew
Abeysinghe will lead Sri Lanka's Youth Olympic squad for Nanjing, China.

The Killer Whale Aquatics Abeysinghe, who holds every national record
except 50m butterly, three backstroke and three breastroke events, will
be competing in his pet events 50m, 100m freestyle with 100m butterfly
events at the 204-nation Nanjing Games, to be held from August 16 to 28.
Matthew, is the lone swimmer to have won a medal in swimming at Asian
level when he won a 100m freestyle bronze last year at the same venue at
the Asian Youth Games. The 18-year-old swimmer also won a silver medal
in 100m freestyle at the Asian Age Group Championship in 2012,
Indonesia.
Abeysinghe, who shattered all the records of country's ace swimmer
Jullian Bolling, has also won a gold at Singapore Grand Prix in 2012 in
400m freestyle. In the Malaysian Open, he clinched a bronze medal in
400m freestyle event.
