England finish on top in Commonwealth Games

England became top in the medals table beating the defending
champions Australia in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in Scottland.
Australia won 74 Gold medals with 177 total medals in the previous Games
in Delhi, India. But Australian were able to win only 49 Golds with 137
total medals.
England took nine gold medals than Australia and they bagged 134
medals overall. Australia ruled the pool winning 19 gold medals, 19
silver and 21 bronze in swimming while England clinched 10 gold, 10
silver and eight bronze in swimming.
England finished way ahead in athletics winnings 27 golds compared to
Australia who managed to bag only 12 gols.
Another noteworty feature, is that England won 32 medals in gymnastic
and judo but Aussies were only able to win only eight those two events.
Nigeria, who also competed to host the 2014 Games, did remarkably
well to finish eight with 11 golds and a tally of 36 medals. India who
was the runners-up in the 2010 Games in New Delhi slipped to fifth
position while Malaysia, who were seven last time dropped down to 12th
place while Singapore also came down in the points table to finish in
11th place.
Once again Sri Lanka's only medal came in weightlifting having won a
silver and a bronze in the previous games.
