Third Antonian Rugby Carnival at CR grounds on August 16

RUGBY FOOTBALL: St. Anthony's College, Kandy (SACK) has maintained its position as one of the leading 'A' division schools in Sri Lanka rugby over the past few decades, having made somewhat of a late entry to the sport in 1956. Being firmly placed among the top ten rugby-playing schools in the island, it has produced renowned ruggerites some of whom have held their own on the world stage, such as Priyantha Ekanayake, a former Sri Lanka Rugby Captain for a record ten years and Past President of the Sri Lankan Rugby Football Union (SLRFU). The school has also contributed significantly to Sri Lankan rugby by outfitting Sri Lanka's national team with talented players.

With the creation of the Antonians Rugby Trust Fund (ARTF), the inaugural Tag Rugby Carnival staged at CR & FC on the 17th of November 2012 was a resounding success with over 2000 Old Antonians along with their families and well-wishers attending the event.

The second chapter of the Antonian Rugby Carnival which took place at CR & FC on the 17th of August 2013, proved to be even more successful with over 3000 current students, past pupils and their families in attendance. The event was also telecast live. The third chapter of this event will take place at CR & FC on the 16th August 2014 with aspirations of reaching much greater heights than before.

The Tag Rugby Carnival is the First and Only Rugby Carnival in Sri Lanka which incorporates a fun-filled carnival atmosphere catering especially to past students and their families with entertainment for the whole family. A kiddies-play area, firework show, DJ, rollicking papare and live performances by a popular local band featuring entertaining singers are also included in the programme. The Rugby Carnival is a perfect opportunity for old boys to reconnect with their old schoolmates and relive their golden school days.

The rugby tournament itself will consist of two categories, namely the Veterans (over 40 years) and the New Generation (under 40 years).

The event organisers invite rugby enthusiasts and the media to participate in this gala event on the 16th of August 2014 at the CR & FC grounds, Longden Place.
