Plea to rectify pension anomalies

A proposal was made at the monthly meeting of the NWP-PC by the Opposition leader J.C. Alawathuwala, that measures should be taken to remove the anomalies in pension payments of government and provincial public servants.

Alawathuwala in his proposal said that the state and provincial service pensioners should be given relief and pension payment increases when the salaries of government servants are increased by the government simultaneously to prevent pension anomalies that presently exist. When this proposal was taken for debate, the NWP-PC Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara and other councillors of the ruling party too expressed their views in favour of the proposal.
