TNA’s confrontational politics come under fire
by P. Krishnaswamy
The TNA came under fire from senior Tamil political leaders for its
confrontational politics towards the Government’s public welfare
measures.
Tamil United Liberation Front Leader (TULF) V.Anandasangaree and
Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises Minister Douglas Devananda
said that the TNA is deliberately blocking, the implementation of the
Rs.20 billion Iranamadu Water Supply Scheme for political reasons, as it
would benefit people in Jaffna and Kilinochchi.
The project is a long-felt need of the people, he said. Instances
where they had obstructed similar welfare projects had also been brought
to his notice. He compared them to a “coffin seller” who benefits from
people’s deaths.
Peace was restored in the Northern province after a long drawn out
war against terrorism and the Government’s concerted efforts to develop
the region are facing obstacles due to the TNA’s attitude, he said.
“They do not do anything and neither do they allow others to do so”
and this is very distressing, he said. People should realise their true
nature for their own good, he said.
Anandasangaree held discussions with President Mahinda Rajapaksa over
three years ago on the Iranamadu scheme and had also presented some
proposals.
He also discussed the matter with the TNA leaders but they do not
consult him on any matters concerning the people’s welfare, he said.
