M.A. Bakeer Markar - a gentleman par excellence- President BASL

The 17th commemorative ceremony of the late Deshamanya M.A. Bakeer Markar was held at the Skills Development Centre of Royal College recently. It was attended by a Ministers, Parliamentarians, members of the diplomatic co and clergy of all denominations.

The chief guest on the occasion, the President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka who delivered the keynote address said that Deshamanya M.A. Bakeer Markar was not only a legal luminary, committed politician, respected Speaker of Parliament but a gentleman par excellence.

He devoted his entire career for the welbeing of the countrymen irrespective of any differences. He was a visionary who advocated inter communal harmony right along his political career. Upul Jayasuriya said that its a pity that the people of the calibre of M.A. Bakeer Markar is very rare or virtually non-existant in the present society.

A book titled Sariththira Nayahar Bakeer Markar authored by Mrs. Fathima Mukthar in Tamil was launched by Productivity Development Minister Basheer Segu Dawood.
