Six km 'Fun Run' today
A 6 km 'Fun Run 2014' will take place on September 14 with all the
proceeds from the entrance registration fee Rs. 500, being donated to
charity. The event will be held on Sunday, September 14 commencing at
7.00 a.m., hosted by the Hilton Colombo Residences with KISS FM and is
open to the public with event categories and cash rewards to be won.
The events for the day will include a Men's and Women's open running
event for 6 km, and another for boys and girls under 15 years for a 3 km
run.
The route of the 6 km - run will commence from Hilton Colombo
Residences at Staples Street, turn right to Malay Street, through Sir
Chittampalam A. Gardiner Mawatha, to T.B. Jayah Mawatha to Union Place
and back to the hotel, via Union Place.
For the under 15 age group the 3 km - run will turn off from Malay
Street to the Slave Island Police Station through Kumaran Ratnam Mawatha
and head back to the hotel via Union Place.
It is an event to foster fun, fellowship and networking away from the
hectic work life.
Death of Chelvatamby Maniccavasagar
Kalabooshana Chelvatamby Maniccavasagar - Justice of the Peace and a
former staffer of the Ceylon Daily Mirror, Sunday Times and the
Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd., passed away peacefully at the
Colombo National Hospital on Tuesday, after a brief illness. He was 76.
Maniccs (to his close friends and colleagues) who was born at Puloly
in Point Pedro had his education at Hartley College, Jaffna.
He started his journalistic career as a sub-editor at the now defunct
Times Group. He later joined Lake House in 1976 and worked for 30 years.
After retirement he continued to contribute articles to various English
and Tamil newspapers.
The cortège will leave the Jayaratne Parlour today at 10.00 a.m.
Funeral at the General Cemetery, Kanatte (Hindu Section).
Kidney patients seek help
M.K. Wijerathna (55)of No. 45, Bandaranayake Mawatha, Biyagama Road,
Kelaniya, is suffering from a kidney ailment.
Consultant Nephrologist of the , Nephrology & Transplant Unit, NHSL,
Colombo, Dr. A.L.M. Nazar has recommended immediate kidney
Transplantation and the cost is around Rs. 3 million. His blood group is
O+ and needs a kidney of a donor whose group is 'O'.
He is unemployed due to his sickness and has to look after his wife
and his 12-year-old daughter. Wijerathna appeals to the public for
financial assistance to undergo the surgery.

Seneviratne to undergo a kidney transplant to save his life.
He is a father of three schoolchildren. His needs a kidney of B or O
blood group.

Harcourts - Awards Day on Sept. 18
Harcourts International School will hold its Annual Awards Day on

Ashan Jayatilaka's book launch on Sept 18
Sri Lanka's first contemporary epic fantasy fiction written in
English "Tristan's Conquest: Knights of Olympus" by Ashan Jayatilaka
will be launched on September 18 at 6 p.m. at the "Crescendo", Nelung
Arts Centre.
