Trinity win by an innings

Trinity College Kandy last year's League Runners-up started their season on a winning note when they trounced President's College Kotte by an innings and 77 runs in their schools Under-19 cricket tournament match concluded at the Asgiriya Stadium, Kandy yesterday.

Trailing on the first innings by 154 runs the visitors started their second essay on a disastrous note losing their first wicket without a run on the board. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals and at one stage they were reeling at 5 for 5 as they went for lunch with the total 24 for 6.

But after lunch the tail wagged a little, but it was not strong enough to stay at the wicket but the all important runs did not flow from the bat to make the lions bat again. They were dismissed a few overs before tea.

President’s College Kotte: 124 all out and 77 all out in 52 overs (Nethmine Kodipilli 23, Wasitha Boteju 26, Pramodya Abeykoon 3 for 19, Shanogeeth Shanmuganathan 2 for 19, Nushan Weerasinghe 2 for 11, Lahiru Sudesh Kumara 3 for 20)

Trinity College: 245 for 8 overnight continued 278 all out in 51 overs (Arjuna Jayasinghe 147, Naveen Ekanayake 30, P Abeykoon 10 not out, Malshan Jayawardene 2 for 52, Chamodh Weerasinghe 5 for 78).
