Training program on Customs HS codes

The annual training program on Customs Harmonised Commodity System better known as HS organised by the Shippers' Academy Colombo will be held for the fourth consecutive year to educate the trading and service industry involved in international trade.

The Harmonised Commodity Code System (HS) is an international method of classifying products for trading purposes.

This classification is used by Customs officials around the world to determine the duties, taxes and regulations that apply to the product under different trade agreements.

The World Customs Organisation (WCO) and International Trade Centre (ITC) modify and make many changes in the HS system. Traders and service providers should have a close understanding of the global classification. HS knowledge will help traders and service providers to break into and operate in new markets.

Exporters, importers or service organisations such as logistics, shipping, banking or insurance need to understand the correct identification of products traded.

The one-day certificate program will be conducted by Deputy Director, Sri Lanka Customs, J.A.D.A. Perera on Friday.
