'Macksons Group produces environment-friendly goods'

Multilac Paints recently received the Green Label certification for its environment-friendly production process.

It is the bounden duty of all to protect the environment, said Investment Promotion Deputy Minister Faizer Mustapha at a ceremony to mark the presentation of the Green Label certification to Multilac Paints.

"Environmental issues are close to me, as I was the Deputy Minister of Environment couple of years ago. The Macksons Group always produces environment-friendly goods," he said.

"The Green Building Council issues certification to Sri Lanka's biggest exporters. Priority should be given to local products. Local companies should protect the environment while improving standards," the Deputy Minister said.

"Apparel manufacturers need to have an environment card to market their products in Europe and other developed countries," he said. "The Green Building Council is doing yeoman service to protect the environment. It is the bounden duty of all to protect the environment.

Failure to protect the environment will cause various social and economic issues. When certificates for buildings are issued, the concept of environment protection should be considered. Water and other important facilities should be checked, the Deputy Minister said.

He said that products without the green label are rejected in some foreign countries.
