Over 50,000 students yet to get NICs

The students who sit the GCE (O/L) 2014 in December this year should have obtained their National ID cards by now. But it has been found that around 50,000 students have failed to get their NICs so far.

Several circulars were issued to all schools to take early steps to get NICs for their students in advance but many principals have ignored our instructions and consequently, students would undergo difficulties at the last moment with the public examination.

"I strongly instruct school students, their parents and school heads to get NICs within next two weeks.

Else, my Department would not be able to comply with the all hasty requests for NICs, said the Commissioner General of Persons Registration Department Sarath Kumara told the Sunday Observer.
