Panadura Royal stun Wesley

Royal College, Panadura took first innings points over Wesley College in their Singer Under 19 school cricket match played at Campbell Park yesterday. Almost six hours of play was lost due to rain and Wesley batting first collapsed to a paltry 105 runs. In reply the Panadura Royalists declared their innings at 231 for 5 with Vimukthi Wickremasekera and Rajive Ravishankar compiling half centuries.

Wesley 105 ( Chamod Athulathmudali 32 n.o., Rehan Seneviratne 20, Ashan Chamara 3 for 37 , Ravi Lakshan 2for 7, ) and 75 for 2 when rain stopped play around 2.30 pm (Rehan Seneviratne 20).

Royal, Panadura 231 for 5 (AshanChamara 35, Pavan Dias 43, Vimukthi Wimalasekera 52, R.Ravishankar 50 n.o, Akila Lakshan 20 n.o, Kanishka Wickremasinghe 2 for 20).


Dineth Thimodya blasts 140

A hectic innings of 140 off 111deliveries with eleven sixes and seven fours by Peterite Dineth Thamodya was the highlight of the drawn Singer Under 19 school cricket encounter between De Mazenod College, Kandana and St. Peter's College, played at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

Thamodya demonstrated his batting skills in no uncertain terms as he followed up his first innings 79 to give his team a first innings lead.

The Mazenodians were 25 for 2in reply to the Peterite first innings total of 250. Helped by a resourceful 79 by Malshan Fernando the Kandana school reached 189 off 70.4 overs.

The Peterites going for the second time with a lead of 61 saw Thimodya in full force belting the Mazenodian bowling attack to all corners of the field.

St. Peter's 250 (Dineth Thimodya 79, Didulana Mendis 27, Chadula Jayamanne 33, Sachin Dalpadadu 38, Rukshan Fernando 3 for 33, Akash Seneviratne 6 for 67) and 228 for 5 in 44.1 overs (Dineth Thimodya 140, Didulana Medis 26, Sachin Dalpadadu 32 n.o, Rukshan Fernando 2 for 72).

De Mazenod (25 for 2 overnight) 189 in70.4 overs (Malsha Fernando 79, Shehan Jayasundera 28, Ishara Perera 21, Taneesha Weerakoon 5 for 49, Randal Seneviratne 2 for 32).


Twin fifties by Deshan

Deshan Gunasinghe struck two half centuries as the Singer Under 19 school cricket encounter between Dharmaraja and Royal ended in a draw at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Deshan Gunasinghe who top scored for the Rajans in their first innings total of 197 gave another fine batting display in their second innings with 73. Royal who were 38for 1 overnight helped by a determined 67 by Randev Pathirana and a half century by Naveen Vidanapathirana reached 203 for 8declared.

Dharmaraja 192 (Kanishka Dissanayake25, Deshan Gunasinghe 91 n.o, Lasith Embuldeniya 3 for 39, Harith Samarasinghe 3 for33) and 128 for 7 at close ( Deshan Gunasinghe 73, HimeshRamanayake 3 for 34).

Royal (39 for 1 overnight) 203 for 8 declared (Randev Pathirana 67, Naveen Vidanapathirana 50, Geeshath Panditharatne 24, Kanishka Dissanayake 3 for 33, Tharusha Weragoda2 for 37, Venuka Galahitiyawa 2 for 49).
