Lakshan and Elisha excel in Defence University Colours Nite
The Colours Nite of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University
was held on 14th November at the University main auditorium. Major
General MP Peiris RWP RSP USP ndc psc graced the occasion as the chief
guest.

Undergraduates Lakshan Fernando and his sister Elisha
Fernando who created history by winning colours at the
General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University in the same

Undergraduate Lakshan Fernando and his sister undergraduate Elisha
Fernando were both awarded Colours for the achievements performed in
Athletics for the year 2014.
Lakshan Fernando was an outstanding sportsman produced by St.
Joseph's College, Colombo 10 in the recent past who also captained St.
Joseph's athletics in 2010. He was awarded "Josephian Blue" and the
sportsman of the year 2009. In addition, he is a National Colorsman in
Athletics who was awarded 10 times National level Colours in athletics.
Moreover, this year Lakshan renewed his own record of javelin throw
which he set at the previous year KDU sports meet and also placed in
Shot putt with a new meet record too.
Elisha Fernando was also an outstanding sportswoman produced by St.
Bridget's Convent, Colombo 07 in the recent past who also captained St.
Bridget's athletics in 2010 and Netball in 2009. She has also
represented the University in Rowing and Tennis in national standards.
Major General MP Peiris RWP RSP USP ndc psc , Vice Chancellor
provides all facilities and the fullest support to the undergraduate
sportsmen of the university to improve and to achieve high standards in
sports.
Their coach Dilruk Nilantha is behind their achievements in athletics
from their school days who encouraged them to establish many school
records in athletics.
Their father DIG Roshan Fernando, was an outstanding old Royalist who
captained Royal College athletics in 1979 and a superb athlete during
his days whose records are still unbroken for 38 years. |
