Victoria Golf annual championships Nov. 22 and 23

Victoria Golf and Country Resort will go gay when the annual Club
Championship will be worked off at the award winning Victoria Golf
Course at Rajawatta off Kandy next weekend November 22nd and 23rd with
the tee off scheduled at 7.30 a.m. each day.
This championship is exclusively for the members of the club and the
entries restricted to 100 golfers. Already 80 golfers have entered to
play in this championship and more are expected to enter the fray.
The Ladies defending champion is versatile golfer Suwen Selvaratnam,
but she will have tough opposition from Niloo Jayathilake, Manori
Jayakody, Sonia Boyle, Pauline Morley, Linda Harris, Fran de Mel, Jyoti
Haynes, Indira Tibblins, Chathuri Engman, Sumithra Dayananda Ukkwatte,
Margritta Berg and a number of other players.
The defending champion in the men's category is Sujeewa Lankatileke
and the others in for the club's plum are Neroy Marso, Ian Tait, Serath
Kasthuriratne, Damindra Fernando, Rohan de Silva, Desmond Haynes, Nimal
Wettimuny, Sidath Wettimuny, Sanjaya Wettimuni, Johan Wessweman, Tony
Witham and Sam Gunaratne and Erroe Johnstan just to name a few.
The Golf Course at Victoria is in excellent condition following the
rains experienced in this area for the past few weeks. The fairways are
all green with the lush growth of grass and made possible by the course
manager Indu Rodrigo under the direction of General Manager Nerog Marso
himself a low handicap golfer.
On the first day (November 22) it will be a 18-hole first round. The
second round which will be played on November 23 will be also on the
same format.
The distribution of awards will take place on Sunday November 23 at
the conclusion of the championship. |
