CAA launches snap raids countrywide

The flying squad of the Consumer Affairs Authority(CAA) will launch a series of snap raids countrywide in the coming days where numerous complaints relating to unscrupulous vendors have been reported during this festive season. CAA Director General, J M A Douglas has instructed all district CAA senior officials to prepare a special program to be launched to look into instances where the public have been mistreated by unscrupulous traders. Officials will conduct snap raids in major commercial areas where large numbers of people are seen shopping for essential and other goods.

They are warned to be cautious especially when buying electronic items and check guaranties given by traders.

The public is requested to be watchful when purchasing food items as the products could be substandard or outdated. The CAA will also monitor whether vendors and traders comply with the laws and regulations of the Consumer Affairs Act in conducting their businesses. Law breakers will be severely dealt with, he warned.
