Couples banned from Tokyo restaurant on Christmas Eve

Single customers will feel sad and lonely when they see couples coming to PiaPia restaurant in Tokyo on Christmas eve.

Hence the restaurant posted a note in its window featuring a hand-drawn couple and a heart that have been crossed out with an explanation stating, "We will be refusing entry to all couples on December 24, with no exceptions!"

The note says couples would serve as a reminder of loneliness for single patrons on Christmas Eve and romantic pairs "would cause severe emotional trauma to members of our staff" who have to work on the holiday.

PiaPia worker Takashi Kyozuka said the sign was posted because eatery staff don't want customers to "feel sad that they are by themselves."

Running track built on the roof of school

Why go to another for your track and field practices and events when you can build the track on the roof of the building where you occupy.

This is what an elementary school in Tiantai, in China's Zhejiang Province, has done when they built a 200-metre running track built on its roof..There wasn't any construction land available on the school grounds, so they figured a track on the roof is better than no track at all.

"Under the circumstances that limited land cannot provide enough space for students to exercise in, we chose to challenge the concept that playgrounds and tracks have to be on the ground," said chief architect Ruan Hao. The unique design has received worldwide recognition - it represented China at the 14th Venice Architecture Exhibition this year.

The unusual roof-track is good enough to meet the physical education needs of the school's 1,600 students. It is equipped with all sorts of safety measures - there are three protective layers to keep the kids safe. Surrounding the track at the very outer edge is a six-foot glass wall. The wall closest to the track is four foot tall, and there's a green belt sandwiched between the two walls. Authorities have also installed surveillance cameras to constantly monitor student activity.

The unique rooftop running track was inaugurated in September and provides more than 3,000 square metres of space for students to play and exercise in complete safety.

Green cat of Bulgaria

This is the unbelievable purring feline that has helped the Bulgarian seaside resort town of Varna to make headlines. It turns out to be a cat with unusually emerald green fur. because of its unusually emerald green fur.

Although several theories have tried to explain the radioactive colour of the stray animal, the true cause of its colouration remains a mystery.

The 'green cat of Bulgaria', as the brightly coloured feline has come to be known online, was spotted prowling the streets of Varna a few days ago, and as soon as photos of it appeared on the internet, it became an international news topic. Truth be told, it's not every day that you get to see a real-life emerald cat, and the inexplicable cause of its bizarre colour simply made the topic even more intriguing. According to some sources, the stray feline only displayed a hint of green on its fur, but gradually grew greener until attaining the bright emerald colour you see here.

The various news agencies that covered this unusual news eventually reported the explanation for the cat's unusual colour was that it has been sleeping on an abandoned pile of synthetic green paint, in a garage.

However, the mentioned pile does is not shown in any of the videos of the green cat, and it doesn't really explain the perfect distribution of the colouring on the cat's body.

Still the Green Cat of Bulgaria remains an unsolved mystery.

The best tip ever!

She was a very pleasant and efficient waitress and most of the customers to this small and simple eatery were extremely happy with her service.

So a group of regulars came in over the recent Thanksgiving weekend and requested her services. She says when they left they handed her $20 tip and that made her happy.

Cindi Grady was in store for more. Her manager came up to her a few minutes later and told her to come with her. Cindi couldn't understand what she had done that required a meeting with management. But she didn't go to the office, she was taken outside where the patrons were standing. Gary Tackett and his wife Roxann had noticed that Cindi had been driving an old car covered in plastic wrap and the hood tied on so they decided to do something about it. They handed her the keys to a silver 2008 Ford Fusion with a red bow on it. They purchased the car as a gift for the hard working woman trying to support a son with disabilities. As for Cindi, she was totally surprised by their generosity and quickly got in to test it out.

Desperate to find Santa, they dial 911

Christmas was approaching fast and these two young brothers from southeastern Wisconsin were so desperate to talk to Santa Clause they dialled 911.

The boys, ages 3 and 6, thought the best way to get in touch with the North Pole was by phone. And for youngsters of that age, their Christmas lists could be considered an emergency.

So, the brothers used their Dad's cellphone to place a 911 call, hoping to be connected with the North Pole and the big guy himself.

When the police showed up at their doorstep in Mayville they didn't know how to react. The police officers listening to their explanation told them "If you want to talk to Santa, do it in person."

Mayville is 50 miles northwest of Milwaukee.
