Archbishop confirms Pope’s visit

Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith in a media, release yesterday confirmed that Pope Francis will visit Sri Lanka as scheduled despite the outcome of the election.

The release by Director Information and Media Secretariat Rev. Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando on the Holy Father’s Visit to Sri Lanka 2015 said the visit of Pope Francis from January 13-15 will take place as planned.

President Maithripala Sirisena has pledged his fullest co-operation for the success of the Papal visit and all government institutions would do everything, the Archbishop said.

“We earnestly appeal to all Sri Lankans to help make the Pope’s visit a success by maintaining peace and order at a time a new President has been elected.”
