SOSL concert next Sunday

The Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka (SOSL) will perform the Masterpiece concert on February 22 at the Ladies College Hall, Colombo.

The concert which will be conducted by Ajith Abeysekera will feature the principal trumpet soloist Naveen Fernando who is also the Founder and Leader of the Colombo Brass Ensemble.

The program for the evening will include Mozart's Overture to the opera 'The Abduction of the Seraglio, Hummel's Trumpet Concerto and Bizet's youthful, popular and tuneful Symphony in C Major.

Naveen Fernando will be the soloist in the Hummel's popular Trumpet Concerto. The Overture to the 'Abduction of the Seraglio was Mozants' first big success and is tuneful and entertaining as his popular overtures to 'The Marriage of Figaro' and 'The Magic Flute'.

The Symphony in C Major is in four contrasting movements, in turn ardent and lyrical and then exciting and brimming with vitality.
