COSLAM Malay Language Day on March 29
The Conference of Sri Lankan Malays (COSLAM) for the ninth year in
succession has made arrangements to observe Hari Bahasa Melayu (Malay
Language Day) on Sunday, March 29, in an effect to encourage and
popularise the use of the language amongst Malays and other interested
persons.
In pursuance of this, COSLAM has organised competitions in the Malay
Language, essay writing and oratory, where persons in the age groups of
Under 12, Under 15, Under 17, Under 21 and Open categories could compete
for valuable prizes. Application forms could be obtained by sending a
self-addressed stamped envelop to: The Gen. Secretary, COSLAM, No. 8/22,
Kotte Road, Pita Kotte and applications close February 20.
Pre-competition seminars have been arranged to be held today at 10
a.m. at Zahira College, Colombo 10 and Zahira MV, Akbar Town, Hunupitiya,
Wattala and on Tuesday February 17 (Maha Sivarathri Day) at 10 a.m. at
Al Imran International College, to assist the competitors who intend to
participate in the competitions by giving them the necessary syllabi and
instruction. Similar seminars have already been held in Hambantota and
Puttalam. Hari Bahasa Melayu Ke-9 will be held at the New Town Hall,
Nelum Pokuna Mawatha, Colombo 7 commencing at 9.30 a.m. Prize winners
will be awarded their prizes on that day and the winners of the
Oratorical competition will deliver their prize-winning speeches.
A commemoration meeting to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Al Haj
Dr. T.B. Jayah will also be held on that day. The event is coordinated
