New office bearers appointed to SLFP
President Maithripala Sirisena presided over the meeting of the Sri
Lanka Freedom Party Central Committee held yesterday in Battaramulla.
MP Susil Premjayanth was appointed National Organiser of the Party
and MP Anura Priyadarshana Yapa remains as General Secretary.
Speaking at the meeting President Sirisena said that he was committed
to change the fragmented political environment prevailing in the
country. President Sirisena said that he accepted the leadership of the
party considering the invitation of party stalwarts and that he will
lead the SLFP to victory as the leader of the Party.
MP S.B.Nawinna was appointed as treasurer.
According to party sources the need to amend the party constitution
has been taken in to serious consideration when senior party members met
last Friday at party headquarters. Former Presidents Chandrika
Kumaratunga, Mahinda Rajapaksa, former Prime Minister Ratnasiri
Wikramanayake, D.M.Jayaratne and party senior member Alavi Moulana were
appointed advisors, sources said.
Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva and MP W.D.J. Seneviratne
were appointed Senior Vice Presidents of the party while Rajitha
Seneviratne, S.B.Dissanayake, Piyasena Gamage and MKDS Gunawardane have
been appointed as Vice Presidents of the party.
Former Presidents Chandrika Kumaratunga and Mahinda Rajapaksa were
invited to the meeting but they did not attend the meeting.
SLFP General Secretary Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said that
Kumaratunga and Rajapaksa had informed the party that they were unable
to attend the meeting owing to prior commitments.
