by Kurulu Kariyakarawana
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) which recorded a lengthy
statement from Colombo District UPFA parliamentarian Duminda Silva will
question several top State officials of the former regime, police
sources said.
The CID on Friday appointed three special teams under an Assistant
Superintendent of Police to record statements from these officials
regarding various matters in the MP’s statement.
These names were reportedly revealed following a 20-hour statement
recorded from MP Silva after almost three days by detectives in
connection with the allegations of money laundering levelled against the
politician.
MP Silva was taken in for questioning by the CID on Tuesday following
allegations by the notorious drug kingpin Gampola Vidanalage Samantha
alias Wele Suda.
Wele Suda in his statement said that he paid Rs. 2.5 million as
monthly commission to MP Silva. The CID sought permission to check the
politician’s bank accounts last week and he was later summoned for
questioning.
The police will notify the names of the officials concerned to the
Controller of Immigration to prevent them from leaving the country while
the investigation is under way. |
