Royal retain Sir Frank Gunasekera Trophy

Royal College retained the Sir Frank Gunasekera memeorial trophy when
they beat Wesley College by nine wickets in their Singer Under 19 school
cricket encounter played at Reid Avenue yesterday.
Wesley continued their dismal run in the season as the Royal bowlers
had a field day while dismissing the Wesleyites for a paltry 93 in the
first innings and 172 while following on.
In reply to Royal's 235 for 8 declared Wesley were 89 for 8 overnight
and were dismissed for 93. Medium pacer Chamika Karunaratne, Harith
Samarasinghe and Lasith Embuldeniya took three wickets apiece.
Wesley following on with a deficit of142 were unable to put up a
challenging total and were all out for172 runs. Jonathan Caderamanpulle
(38) and Kavishka Wickremasinghe(32) were among the runs. For Royal
Lasith Embuldeniya (5 for 56) and skipper Harith Samarasinghe (3 for 42)
were the chief destroyers.
Lasith Embuldeniya was awarded the Eric Jayasekera memorial trophy
for the best bowler.
