Govt will fulfill its pledges -Minister Rajitha Senaratne

Already 50 days of the 100 days program have elapsed. We will fulfill
the promises within the next 50 days and bring about the changes as soon
as possible, Minister Rajitha Senaratna said Minister pointed out that
the people have given a mandate to the new government to change the
shortcomings in the constitution and introduce progressive reforms.
Therefore, the public want to see elections being held under a new
electoral system.
Though 100 days are not enough to make the proposed reforms the
government will fulfill the pledges given in the 100-day programe before
going for General Elections. Before holding a national election to
ensure the confidence of the citizens on the process of free and fair
election, the government has taken steps to set up a committee to
expeditiously investigate election complaints comprising experts of
legal, administration, election, fiscal and investigation sectors.
The Committee will investigate reported incidents of misuse of State
media, illegal use of public property for election activities, use of
government employees in political activities, misuse of government
funds, violations of rules and regulations of Act No. 15 of 1981
relating to the election of a President and to establish an efficient
and transparent mechanism to commence expeditious investigations and to
take necessary legal and disciplinary action and to present the report
of the said committee within 60 days. |
