SLAF turns 64

The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) turns 64 on March 2. Celebrations will
be held to mark the Air Force Day. The SLAF has scheduled official
ceremonies to be held at headquarters, camps and all units established
all over the country to mark the anniversary.
With the end of the 30-year-long war, the SLAF has faced new
challenges of transition from war to peace. “Basically, the role of the
SLAF remains the same. The Air Force has not been ordered to stand down.
We continue to maintain the same level of alertness we had earlier,”
Air Force Spokesman Wing Commander Gihan Seneviratne said.
“This does not mean that we would deploy our men for operations but
train them to be on standby whenever called upon to defend the country.
We maintain our readiness,” Wing Com. Seneviratne added.
The SLAF is also focusing more on improving its surveillance and
reconnaissance to protect the country and its territorial waters.
