Footwear and Leather Fair 2015:
DSI dominates Design Awards
Footwear maker, DSI dominated the Design Award Ceremony held recently
at the BMICH.
Held parallel to the Footwear and Leather Fair 2015, the ceremony
recognised the best and brightest in the industry.
It was organised by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), the
Industrial Development Board (IDB) and the Footwear and Leather Goods
Manufacturers Association as an endeavour to assist and upgrade local
manufacturers and designers.
The design team of DSI won in many of the categories, including Gold
and Silver awards in the categories of ladies and gents footwear.
The first three awards (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) in the special
goods category, and the Gold award in the leather goods category.
These eight main awards were complemented by the addition of another
19 merit awards, which brought the number of awards won by DSI to 27 of
the 40 available.
A spokesperson for the DSI Samson Group attributed the success to a
shift in focus to product development in the footwear cluster of the
group.
He said that this shift in focus created many opportunities for new,
up-coming designers, allowing them to upgrade skills through the new
design lab.
DSI has maintained its position as one of the market leaders in the
footwear cluster since 1998, he said.
