Gen. Fonseka to be decorated Field Marshal
By Ranil Wijayapala
A tri-forces parade awaits General Sarath Fonseka at the grounds
adjoining the heli-pad of the Defence Ministry on March 22 when
President Maithripala Sirisena decorates him with the rank of Field
Marshal in recognition of his role in defeating LTTE terrorism, Defence
sources told the Sunday Observer.
The former Army Commander who led troops to defeat the LTTE ending
the three-decade long war, was stripped of his rank and pension by the
Rajapaksa regime after his defeat at the 2010 January presidential
polls. President Maithripala Sirisena following his victory at the
January 8 presidential election, restored his military rank and pension,
granting him a presidential pardon. |
