Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and the All Ceylon Muslim Congress (ACMC)
said that whether the electoral and constitutional amendments were
introduced or not the Government should dissolve the Parliament after
the completion of the 100 day program.
The Sunday Observer spoke to TNA Spokesman Suresh Premachandran and
ACMC General Secretary Y.L.S. Hameed with regard to this matter. Their
collective view was the Government should go for general election after
the completion of 100 day program as promised during the presidential
election campaign.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is talking about a national
Government that will also be possible after the general election, TNA
Spokesman Premachandran said.
Premachandran said that the new Government has given a guarantee to
the public that they would hold the election after the completion of the
100 day program. According to which the Government has to dissolve the
parliament and go for a new election.
Now the SLFP says that electoral reforms should also taken. Since we
have to focus on the proposed amendments and discuss with other
political parties, Electoral reforms will be taken time. The ACMC
General Secretary Y.L.S. Hameed said that the ACMC is also in the same
view as TNA. Electoral and the constitutional reforms with regard to the
executive presidency must be studied carefully.
Hundred day program is not enough to introduce electoral and
constitutional amendments. Electoral reforms need to be discussed in
length with the parties involved or interested, stakeholders and
different communities, Hameed said. |
