Six themes at environment seminar
The first international symposium on 'Environment Management and
Planning' organised by the Central Environment Authority (CEA) of Sri
Lanka was held at the Waters Edge, Battaramulla recently.
The symposium revolved around six core themes comprising
Environmental Innovation, Natural Resources Management, Pollution
Control and Management, Geo-informatics Applications in Environmental
Management, Environment and Sustainable Development and Environmental
Education and Awareness. Abstracts on the six topics were called in
August 2014 which was short listed and the authors presented their
abstracts at the symposium. Among the participants were leading
academics, scientists, researchers and research scholars.
This symposium created a platform for exchanging experiences and
operational structures about environmental management. This was driven
through focused interdisciplinary sessions enabling the audience and
speakers to present and discuss current trends in innovation, risks,
real-world challenges and solutions applied in the field.
Supun Siriwardane, a Product Engineer at GIS Solutions (Pvt) Ltd, a
subsidiary of the Just In Time Group, presented his abstract on
Geo-informatics Applications on day two of the symposium's technical
sessions.
Siriwardane's paper on 'Cloud Based GIS Approach for Environmental
Monitoring in the Coastal Zone of Kalutara, Sri Lanka' brought into play
the current trend of Cloud Solutions through his outline of natural
resource management using Cloud GIS applications. |
