Only 39.5 overs bowled in Kandy Battle of the Blues

The 99th Kandy's 'Battle of the Blues' between St Anthony's College Katugastota and Trinity College , was called off with no play possible due to wet conditions at Katugastoda yesterday.

The score stood at the overnight total of St Anthony's College 97 for 3 by lunch time on the first day. The next five sessions were washed off.

It is time that it rained a little but the Weather Gods were not totally responsible for the disappointing situation. Not having adequate covers should be held responsible for this.

It rained during lunch time on the first day. The playing strip was covered but not the area square of the wicket which was wet and according to the umpires not safe to play otherwise play would have been possible.

Yesterday too the same situation prevailed. There was a drizzle and the outfield was fit for play to resume but not the area close to the wicket. The umpires called off play during the last session with only 39.5 overs being bowled.

St Anthony's College: 97 for 3 (Kanishka Uggalpaya 50).
