Much potential in Scandinavian market for exporters - OTGS
Sri Lankan exporters should tap the huge potential in the
Scandinavian market including Sweden, officials of Open Trade Gate of
Sweden (OTGS), told a group of Sri Lankan exporters at a half-day
seminar on 'Exports to Sweden' at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce,
recently. OTGS, acts as a facilitator for potential exporters to Sweden.
The seminar facilitated by the Department of Commerce, Embassy of Sri
Lanka in Sweden with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce covered areas such
as the services exporters can obtained via
the Open Trade Gate of Sweden, procedures to be followed and EU
regulations.
They also highlighted the potential available for exporters in the
Swedish market, details about Swedish imports and consumer demands,
topics of special complexity, such as the rules of origin, certification
and standards.
According to a senior official of the Open Trade Gate of Sweden, Mrs.
Helena Hafgren, textiles and garments, ceramics, jewellery, fruits and
vegetables, tea and spices are among the items that Sri Lankan exporters
can focus on exporting to Sweden.
Trade Policy Advisor, Open Trade Gate of Sweden, Mrs. Nesli Aimufti,
outlined EU trade policies and import rules, which have to be followed
by the exporters.
Last year Sri Lanka exported goods worth around US$ 30 million to
Sweden, while it imported goods valued at US$ 45 million. |
