Nipuni Dias Nagahawatte of Musaeus College, Colombo who scored the island's highest marks in the Common stream too received an award for her excellent performance in the new stream introduced by the Ministry of Education.

Minister Kariyawasam said, "As Sri Lanka does not have valuable natural resources such as oil, the Government decided to develop human resources. The Government, particularly the Education Ministry is fully committed to improve the quality of education."

"The scheme launched by Vogue Jewellers is commendable.

We hope the recipients of the awards will use their talents for the country's benefit."

Managing Director, Vogue Jewellers, Anura Hemachandra said, "Vogue Jewellers is synonymous with excellence. We want to instill the value of being truly committed to excellence in the minds of the young generation. We felt that rewarding the high flyers at the GCE Advanced Level examinations would be a great way to give our effort an excellent start."

"We extend our gratitude to former Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena for granting us permission when the proposal was brought forward last year," he said.

"We congratulate the winners and their schools and we wish them every success," Hemachandra said.
