Vogue Jewellers fetes GCE (AL) top performers

Vogue Jewellers presented gifts to top performers at the GCE Advanced
Level examination recently.

Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam was the chief guest.
The Vogue Sisu Nena Ran Pradaana was launched late last year to
reward top performers at the GCE Advanced Level Examination.
H. G. Hiruni Udara of Sujatha Maha Vidyalaya, Matara was presented
the award for the top performing student in Science, Pakiyarajah
Darukeesan of Hindu College, Jaffna in Maths, Piyumi Dhananjana of
Southland College, Galle in Commerce and Nethsala Pathirana of Vishaka
Vidyalaya, Colombo in Arts.
Each winner was presented a 22 carat gold medal, a certificate and a
Vogue gift voucher. A cash donation of Rs. 100,000 was presented to each
school which produced the best performers.
Nipuni Dias Nagahawatte of Musaeus College, Colombo who scored the
island's highest marks in the Common stream too received an award for
her excellent performance in the new stream introduced by the Ministry
of Education.
Minister Kariyawasam said, "As Sri Lanka does not have valuable
natural resources such as oil, the Government decided to develop human
resources. The Government, particularly the Education Ministry is fully
committed to improve the quality of education."
"The scheme launched by Vogue Jewellers is commendable.
We hope the recipients of the awards will use their talents for the
country's benefit."
Managing Director, Vogue Jewellers, Anura Hemachandra said, "Vogue

being truly committed to excellence in the minds of the young
generation. We felt that rewarding the high flyers at the GCE Advanced
Level examinations would be a great way to give our effort an excellent
start."

forward last year," he said.
