Hemas Hospital Wattala opens new ETU
Hemas Hospital, Wattala, opened its state-of-the-art Emergency Trauma
Unit (ETU) expanding its capacity to treat patients.
Built to international standards, the purpose-built hospitals of the
Hemas Group are manned by trained and experienced staff, doctors and
state-of-the art technology enabling Hemas hospitals to be among the
best of health care providers in the country.
Having over 500 consultants visiting the Hemas' hospitals covering a
wide range of specialties it makes the healthcare facilities affordable
among the public.
"The setting up of the Emergency Trauma Unit in the hospital had been
one of our priorities. A lot of people in area and in and around Wattala,
the Gampaha district and up to Puttalam and Warakapola on the Kandy Road
come to this hospital. Sometimes patients lose their lives because they
cannot get to the hospital on time due to the distance."
"We are in a accessible place and it is convenient for the patients
north of Colombo. It is only fair that we give them the best possible
service when it comes to emergency trauma as well. We have invested over
Rs. 15 million in this unit and it is equipped to deal with any
emergency," said Hemas Hospital Chairman, Murtaza Eusufally said.
Hemas Hospital has been accreted by the Australian Council of Health
Care Standards Institute (ACHSI). There are 40 medical criteria be met
to get accreditation.
"I believe we are the only hospital out of Colombo which has this
accreditation. We were the first to get accredited in Sri Lanka. This
has really helped us in keeping our level and culture of service high,"
he said.
The ETU at the Hemas Hospitals Wattala has treated 95,000 patients
over the past six years. Healthcare sector remains the core business in
the Hemas Group portfolio.
