Singer Udugama commends Global Hospital

Popular singer Namal Udugama underwent a successful liver transplant at Global Hospital, India recently.

"Upon his arrival at our hospital, he was evaluated by our liver transplant team and was advised to undergo a liver transplant. No time was wasted in getting support for the liver transplant procedure," Global Health City, HPB and Liver Transplant Surgery, Senior Consultant Dr. Gomathy Narasimhan told the media in Colombo last week.

She added that the liver transplant team, spearheaded by Professor. Mohamed Rela performed the procedure successfully.

Udugama is now in the ward. He is expected to be discharged within the next few weeks.

"Our understanding with local doctors is growing well. Earlier patients used to come at a very late stage, but today, with the help of local doctors, patients understand the importance of liver transplants and its outcome," Dr Narasimhan said." Around 27 patients including children from Sri Lanka have undergone transplants at our hospital. Last month we operated on five patients from Sri Lanka," she added.

In a recorded message, Udugama said, "When I was in Sri Lanka I was half-dead and was unconscious when brought to India for treatment. It was Prof. Mohamed Rela and his staff at Global Hospitals who gave me my life back. This is a dream come true and I still cannot believe it.

"I now have a normal diet and can manage my affairs. I feel I have recovered considerably. I am indebted to the entire staff of Global Hospital as they performed their duties in a humane manner. I hope to return to Sri Lanka shortly. I thank my Sri Lankan fans and others who came to my rescue when I was on the brink of death.

Chairman, Forte Group of Companies, M.F.A. Riyas said, "The story of this singer says it all. After having undergone a successful liver transplant procedure a few weeks ago, he is now all set to rock the world with his voice again. Udugama's daughter said, "My father's health was not good. We never thought of a liver transplant surgery and last year he was in a critical condition and we decided to go for further treatment and chose Global Hospitals in India."

"Before going to India he was very weak, today my father is confident after his surgery and we are extremely happy to about it," she added.
