Use of distorted Lion Flag condemned
Using a Lion Flag without the two coloured stripes representing the
minorities at the protest held outside the Bribery Commission on
Thursday is an unethical and discriminatory act performed by a certain
group of people's representatives.
This act should be condemned and whoever is responsible for this act
should be punished, said C.Y.P. Ram, UNP Colombo District Organiser and
former member, Western Provincial Council (WPC), in a statement.
There had been a change of Government and people of this country are
experiencing a favourable difference in lifestyle socially, politically
and economically. The present UNP Government under the leadership of
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has brought in commendable changes
in the country and now all communities can live in peace and harmony, it
stated.
"It is very strange to note that responsible representatives of the
people such as Dullas Alahapperuma, Udaya Gammampila including others
participated in the protest saying that they were not aware of carrying
a wrong national flag. "They should have been ashamed to issue a
statement like this and it displays their inability and lack of
knowledge and communal mentality against the minority communities in
this country.
"As citizens of this country it is our duty to know the symbolism of
the Lion Flag whereby the orange stripe represents the Tamil community,
vertical green stripe the Muslim community and yellow border the people
from other cultures living in Sri Lanka. |
