EARL DE FONSEKA CHAMBER MUSIC CONCERT

The Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka presents the fifth concert in the Earle De Fonseka Chamber Music Concert Series on May 8. Directed by Dushy Perera, the SOSL will perform three remarkable works for string orchestra namely Serenade for Strings by Josef Suk, St. Paul's Suite by Gustav Holst, and J.S. Bach's enduringly popular double violin concerto. Appearing as soloists at this concert, performing Bach's double concerto are sisters Mandhira and Radhika De Saram-no strangers to Colombo's concert-goers. The concert will be at the Lionel Wendt Theatre.

Dr. Earle De Fonseka was the conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka for over 40 years, from its inception in 1961 until he passed away in 2000. His legacy survives not only in the form of orchestral music, but also in the genre of chamber music-a love of which he inculcated in many of the older generation of musicians in this country.
