High-speed book scanner from Sanje Lanka
Enterprise document management solutions and services company, Sanje
Lanka (Pvt) Limited introduced Qidenus Robotic Book Scanner 3.0 for high
speed mass digitisation of huge book inventories, in Colombo recently.
The Robotic Book Scanner 3.0 manufactured by Qidenus Technologies
GMBH, Austria is a high quality book digitisation system which scans
large volumes of books in a short time.
The machine is based on a worldwide patented turning technique, a
single page control and v-shape book cradle, capturing the pages with
full format digital cameras.
The 3-in-1 machine with its integrated manual modes processes any
document in matching dimension.
It scans two pages at once and turns the pages automatically after
scanning.
It can scan books in colour, greyscale and black and white including
covers and images.
The books are only opened to a 60 degree angle to prevent
over-stretching and damage to the spine. Books with widely varying paper
densities, porosities and textures can all be scanned.
Using prism technology and automatic book cradle alignment each page
is scanned distortion free. Due to the simple concept, it is suitable
for libraries and archives and for large digitisation projects.
It can scan up to 2,500 pages per hour in automatic mode and up to
1,000 pages per hour in semi-automatic mode. It weighs around 260 kilos.
CEO, Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA),
Muhunthan Canagey said, "Online book collections are becoming larger and
more important each day.
As more libraries are digitised, people today read books on their
tablets. Scanning hundreds of thousands of books quickly without
damaging it remains a challenge which the Robotic Book Scan 3.0 can take
up."
Qidenus Technologies, which develops hardware and software solutions
for mass digitisation projects and holds worldwide patents for its
method of automatically turning pages and has 10 years experience in
developing and manufacturing specialised scan hardware and software.
