Relief for politically victimised police officers

The Ministry of Public Order will take measures to provide relief for politically victimised Police officers. Committees appointed by the Ministries of Public Order and Public Administration have handed over the final list of these Police officers to Minister John Amaratunga.

“The finalised list is of officers whose cases are genuine. The next step is implementing the recommendations made by the committees. A Cabinet paper will be submitted within a few weeks seeking the approval of Cabinet for the recommended measures that need to be taken to provide relief,” said Minister Amartunga. The committees have only looked into the cases where there was a request from a victimised police officer. “any person who has made a request will be looked in to,” said the Minister adding that relief will be provided without delay.
