A beautiful moment

Giving tactile reality to the teachings of the Great One about love, compassion and caring to all creatures in the universe, this monkey appears to be sharing a beautiful moment of adulation and reverence, while comfortably perched on the lap of the Buddha in this statue found in Buddangala, near Ampara. The poignant scene was captured by Dubai resident and amateur photographer, Rivi Wickramaraching, during his recent visit to Sri Lanka. "The monkey was following me, very curious about where I was pointing the camera at. Then it clambered up the statue, sat on the lap and looked up to the face of the Buddha, almost as if sharing a private moment. I couldn't resist the picture," he says.
