Schoolboy Ranasinghe wins TT gold medal in India

Udaya Ranasinghe of Vidyartha College Kandy brought honour to Sri
Lanka when he won a gold medal at the 18th South Asian Cadet and Junior
Table Tennis Championship which concluded in New Delhi, India on Friday.
This is the first time, a Sri Lankan schoolboy has won a gold medal
in table tennis. He achieved this feat when he beat number one ranked
Indian junior player in the semi-final and number two ranked in the
final.
The Vidyartha team representing the Sri Lanka Cadet and Junior
Under-18 table tennis team, won the Silver medal in the team event. The
principal of the school, Ranjith Rajapakshe told the correspondent that
the gold medalist Udaya Ranasinghe along with the team Krishan
Wickremeratne, Dinesh Kavishka and Prasad de Silva will be felicitated
by the students, old boys, staff members and well-wishers when they
return to the island
