340 long-term observers in each DS Division - PAFFREL

Rohana Hettiarachchi

People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) hopes to deploy around 15,000 election monitors to observe the elections and has appointed its 340 long-term observers in each Divisional Secretariat Division, Executive Director, PAFFREL, Rohana Hettiarachchi said. PAFFREL has opened a complaints mitigation unit at its head office in Colombo with 30 personnel to look into the complaints they receive from their long-term observers and channel it to the relevant authorities.

PAFFEL will deploy 1,000 observers during the postal voting and deploy one observer for each of the 12,300 polling stations countrywide on election day. “We started the training of observers and there will be minimum of 350 training sessions to train the 12,000 people,” he added.

“On election day we will deploy a minimum 350 mobile teams,” Hettiarachchi said.
