Sri Lanka rugby youth in quarters

Sri Lankareached the Cup quarters of the Asian Junior Rugby Sevens in Malaysia yesterday. Sri Lanka won the opening match against Thailand 31-5 before going down to Hong Kong 24-19.

In the third group stage match Sri Lanka and Taipei drew 19-19.Sri Lanka will meet the UAE in the quarter finals after the arab nation lost to Malaysia (28-05), Singapore(19-17) and beat Kazakhstan (24-19). Sri Lanka skipperKevin Dixon scored three tries, two against Thailand and one against Chinese Taipei while Sithum Piries scored two tries, one against Hong Kong and one against Chinese Taipei.

Sri Lanka lost to Hong Kong in the final minute of play after the scores were levelled at 19-19.Kusal Samaratunge covered half the field to score against Hong Kong after which Sithum Peries touched down under the posts.Against Taipei, Sri Lanka led 19-12 but with aminute to go conceded a try to draw level.Buddhima Piyaratna, Sithum Peries and skipper Dixon scored tries.
