Stage set for SSC Open badminton

For the eighth year in succession, Singhalese Sports Club (SSC) will host the annual SSC Open Badminton Championship which is an SLBA approved Level One ranking tournament, from September 12 to 20, 2015 at its Badminton Complex.

It is one of the biggest and most popular tournaments in the country with over 1000 contestants taking part annually according to the organisers.

Some 31 events conducted in all age groups - Men's Open Singles and Doubles, Women's Singles and Doubles, Open Mixed Doubles, Singles and Doubles for Boys and Girls Under 19, 17 and 15, Singles for Boys and Girls Under 13 and 11, Men's and Women's Singles over 35, Veterans Men's and Women's Singles and Doubles over-40 and the Masters Singles and Doubles over 50 and 55, will be worked off.

The prize money offered will be Rs.500,000 and in addition trophies and certificates will be awarded. With a view to encouraging their involvement in the game, certificates will be awarded to all semi finalists and quarter finalists in junior age groups.

The Championship is conducted by the Sri Lanka Badminton Association and entry forms are available at the SSC and SLBA. Entries close on August 31, 2015 at 5pm.
