Victory heralds surge in economic growth
The Business Chamber of Commerce (BCC) while congratulating the new
Government has called on it to steer the country on the path of free
enterprise.
Excerpts:
The Business Chamber of Commerce extends its warmest congratulations
to the United National Front on winning the general elections.
The United National Front being a progressive democratic force will
have a clear vision and policy designed to steer this nation on the path
of free enterprise. The private sector which this Chamber represents has
complete confidence in the new government's ability to bring about
progress.
Our chamber is full of hope that the government will launch a
cohesive program of economic advancement with emphasis on coordination
and cooperation with the private sector and institution's such as
Chambers of Commerce, which act as catalysts of growth.
The Business Chamber of Commerce reiterates its confidence on the
vision and ability of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet of Ministers, a
blend of youth and professionalism, to take this island nation towards
new frontiers of economic resurgence within a framework of transparency
and good governance.
Investigations on corruption should continue
The Ceylon Chamber Commerce in a media release said it is extremely
important to continue investigations on corruption as it had brought
about an unproductive and unhealthy situation with serious
socio-political and economic impediments.
It began impacting the underpinning social value system in Sri Lanka
and rational and productive use of resources. Projects that have no or
little economic or social importance were designed and implemented to
meet the aspirations of individuals, with cascading impact on the
national economy.
The Chamber considers it important to completely stop the continuity
or possible resurgence of that culture and, therefore, investigation and
dealing with wrong doers, in terms of the law is very important. |
