PB to be further grilled on RADA's missing millions

Former Treasury Secretary P.B.Jayasundara will be summoned again for
questioning by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Police
probing millions of missing treasury allocations to a state agency known
as the Reconstruction and Development Agency (RADA), to built tsunami
houses in LTTE controlled areas during 2006.
A senior investigating official said that Jayasundara was questioned
for five hours from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm on Friday (28) and was able to
extract a lot of information on the case.
The SIU sleuths are investigating where nearly Rs.169 million, part
of the funds allocated for tsunami housing project in LTTE controlled
areas have gone and whether it has fallen in LTTE coffers.
Reconstruction and Development Agency (RADA) was the umbrella agency
entrusted with tsunami reconstruction work in 2006 and was headed by
businessman Tiran Alles. He was questioned earlier in connection with
the case and a total of six arrests were made out of which four suspects
are still in remand custody.
The case will be heard again on September 9 before the Fort
Magistrate. |
