Oops!:
Sudarshani among the 10 women elected
The In-depth cover page article titled ‘Her story in Politics’ in the
August 23 issue of the Sunday Observer, which looked at the women
elected to Parliament in the August 17 polls, had inadvertently left out
former Deputy Minister Sudarshani Fernandopulle, who was elected
Parliament on a United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) ticket with
73,553 votes from the Gampaha District.
Fernandopulle, who remained in the UPFA supporting the Mahinda
Rajapaksa leadership, entered politics following the murder of her
husband, former Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, sacrificing her medical
profession.
The omission is regretted. |
