‘Defence Seminar 2015’ attracts 32 countries
Sri Lanka Army’s flagship project the ‘Defence Seminar 2015’ as the
fifth in the sequel is expecting a plethora of experts from various
countries. According to the organisers, over 64 eminent foreign
personalities from 32 countries are expected at the event.
The Army is expecting over 350 participants, both local and foreign
to participate at the two-day seminar which will be held under the theme
‘National Security in the Context of Emerging Global Threats’ at Colombo
Galadari Hotel on September 1 and 2. Former President of Afganistan
Hamid Karzai is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
The aim is improvement of the geo-strategic security concerns with
the shared knowledge and experience of national and international
scholars, defence experts, policy makers, think-tanks, analysts,
diplomats, advisors, state leaders and service officers, said Army
Commander Lt. Gen. Crishanthe de Silva, addressing a recently held media
briefing.
Under the main these number of sub-themes covering an array of
subjects such as security, regional threats, disaster resilience,
emerging aviation threats, migration and populations, change of contours
of terrorism are scheduled. Under the main theme nine sessions under
sub-themes such as ‘Nature of threats affecting the National Security of
a nation, Emerging world order, Terrorism and national security of a
nation and non military threats to national security’ will be touched
on.
Army Commander Lt. Gen. de Silva said that the ‘Defence Seminar -
2015’ has now become a leading annual event in the Army calendar as an
intellectual interactive session.
The ‘Defence Seminar’ is an annual event initiated in 2011 by the Sri
Lanka Army. Since its inception, it has established itself as a platform
of intellectual interaction to identify and discuss geo-strategic and
security matters in the global, regional and internal contexts and share
expertise on ways to foster collective strategy to meet such issues at a
common standing. |
