Laugh like the Japanese do

Comedy à la Shinkigeki theatre at IFFCOLOMBO 2015:

Yoshimoto Kogyo, a key sponsor of the 2nd International Film Festival (IFF) of Colombo, which is scheduled to be held in November this year, will bring its own popular TV comedy to Sri Lankan audience as a precursor event to IFFCOLOMBO 2015 on 4th September at 4:00 p.m. at the National Film Corporation Theatre.

Japanese comedies produced by Yoshimoto Kogyou Company, representing Yoshimoto`s famed Shinkigeki theatre located in Osaka, Japan`s second largest city, will bring to audience several laughter filled stories that showcase the lives of Japanese people in modern society.

Yoshimoto Kogyou Company boasts a history of over one hundred years in Japanese comedy. The company has around 800 stars and performers employed in the growing entertainment market both locally and abroad.

Yoshimoto comedy is broadly classified as entertainment and performances on both stage and television and they focus on generating laughter as its prime objective. The genre that includes slapstick comic skits and stand-up comedy has become vastly popular in Japan and Asia.

Yoshimoto offices have been set up in the United States China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand where joint ventures with local entertainment companies produce content for films and television. Yoshimoto`s success is based on its comedies that cater to a powerful need in fast paced modern society in which the entertainment industry increasingly produces content that helps people relax and enjoy warm human relations.

In 1959 Yoshimoto kicked off its Shinkigeki theatre that features comedians taking up local social issues with a comical flair. The theatre represents Osaka culture that is known for its boisterous trading community. Shinkigeki has become an icon of Japan`s second largest city. Thousands flock to laugh through shows that feature world-class comedians.

The Directors’ Guild invites comedy loving public to experience Shinkigeki comedy, which is being screened for the first time in Sri Lanka.
