New Sri Lanka weightlifting records set

Three new Sri Lanka records for women and two new records for men were established at the recently concluded weightlifting contest held at the Sports Ministry in Colombo recently.

D.D.Abeysekera of Polonnaruwa SC lifted a total of 145 kgs to establish a new Sri Lanka record in the 48 kgs weight class for women while B.C. Priyanthi from the Navy set a new record in Snatch when she lifted 74 kgs in the 69 kgs weight category for women. W.M.S.Wickremasinghe of the Air Force lifted 88 kgs in the Clean and Jerk to establish a new record in the 75 kgs women's weight category.

J.A.C.Lakmal of the Army lifted 109 kgs in the 56 kgs weight category in the Snatch while S.M. Peters of the Air Force lifted 135 kgs in the 94 kgs weight category also in the Snatch for men to establish a Sri Lanka record.

The team Championship for men was won by the Navy with 22 points while the women's Championship was won by Air Force with 29 points.
