OPA calls for Constitutional amendment

The Organisation for Professional Associations of Sri Lanka wholly and unreservedly condemns the appointments by the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA), United National Party (UNP), Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and Tamil National Alliance (TNA) through its National Lists as their representatives to Parliament, candidates who were defeated at the Parliamentary Election held on August 17 in as much as the same is not only totally unethical and undemocratic but also violates the spirit and cardinal principles of good governance.

As such, the Organisation of Professional Associations calls upon the Government to forthwith amend the Constitution of Sri Lanka disqualifying such defeated candidates from being appointed to Parliament through the National List.
